CUISINE WITH CAROB BEANS AND TAPAS

Two events are held throughout the year, both sponsored by the City Council and with the collaboration of various establishments in the town: Jornades Gastronòmiques de la Cuina amb Garrofa (organized every weekend in June) and Jornades de la Tapa (organized every weekend in April).

GASTRONOMIC DAYS WITH CAROB BEAN CUISINE, CERVERA DEL MAESTRE

The carob bean, a staple of the rainfed economy in the Castellón and Tarragona coastal regions, along with almonds and olives, is a fruit from which, mainly, flour and chocolates are extracted.

Thanks to its components which contain no stimulants, a high fiber and low fat content, it is considered a healthier alternative to cocoa chocolate. It is attributed many beneficial health properties, such as being a powerful antioxidant, an energetic and dietary food that facilitates digestion and is also gluten-free, making it suitable for coeliacs.

Due to its sweet taste, it is used particularly in pastries, cakes and desserts, although it is also useful in savoury dishes (bases and sauces, pasta, snacks, condiments, etc.).

In short, the gastronomic days with carob beans from Cervera offer the public an opportunity to taste and experiment with a new range of textures and flavours from this natural and delicious food.
